Time to move? Tumblr or Posterous?

Good old Prekomorec here at Blogger seems to be getting a bit ... behind the times. Dunno, it just doesn't look as pretty as some of the things to be seen at Tumblr and Posterous, so I'm going to be trialling those two platforms over the next few days.

So far Posterous definitely seems much simpler, but some of the Tumblr blogs and social features seem prettier. We'll see, we'll see.

Update 1: 04.05.2011 ~> for now Posterous is looking much simpler, plus it lets viewers see full size images.

Human: Well-being

A broad definition from Matthews and Iziquerdo (2009, 5) Pursuits of Happiness (emphasis mine):

"Well-being is an optimal state for an individual, community, society, and the world as a whole. It is conceived of, expressed, and experienced in different ways by different individuals and within the cultural contexts of different societies: different societies may have distinctly different culturally shaped visions of well-being. Nonetheless, well-being bears a degree of commonality due to our common humanity and interrelatedness over space and time. Well-being is experienced by individuals - its essential locus lies within individual subjectivity - but it may be considered and compared interpersonally and interculturally, since all individuals live within particular worlds of others, and all societies live in a common world at large."

Please remember these two bits:

1) The individual/s is/are the only measure of well-being.

2) There is no way of knowing/measuring how an individual is truly feeling/being.

Onwards Rocinante, to glory, to defeat the windmills of ill-being.

Thought: Energy, gini and freedom.

Take Leslie White's concept of energy harnessing and control as one of the primary functions of culture. More energy available per capita in a society means less environmental and biological constraint on an individual, thus more options. Cross-refer e.g. Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs and self-actualization. More energy = more chance of self-actualization. Question: well-being vs. energy input probably has an optimum point, thus theoretically there can be a statistical maximum efficiency of well-being. Energy added beyond a certain point adds less well-being. Enter gini coefficient - egalitarian distribution at certain (moderately high?) energy values can give highest potential social well-being. Thus theoretical reason for high egalitarian distribution to allow most total sum individual freedom.

Didn't feel like writing the idea in a longer format. Will do so at some point, but had to jot it down.
